Scars of Shukruti

This documentary photo project is about the Georgian village of Shukruti, where homes crack due to land subsidence and landslides caused by underground manganese mining, and people do not give up in the face of the violence of industrial exploitation.

A musical composition was specially written for this project by Maxim Westphalen. All the noises, from the sounds of industrial ore mining to the children’s voices and the village ambiance, were recorded at Shukruti.
